Highest Safety at Sea with the World's Strongest Rescue Technology

With the McMurdo SmartFind G8 PLUS AIS, you are opting for the next generation of maritime safety. This powerful satellite EPIRB is the world's first rescue beacon that combines the global 406 MHz search and rescue alarm with the localized positioning and tracking performance of AIS (Automatic Identification System). Supplemented by revolutionary infrared technology, this device ensures unparalleled rapid rescue times – anywhere in the world.

Product Highlights and Functionality

The SmartFind G8 PLUS EPIRB utilizes advanced QUADROTECH® technology and transmits on four search and rescue frequencies. In addition to the global alarm via satellite (406 MHz) and the homing frequency for rescue forces (121.5 MHz), a local AIS signal is emitted. This instantly informs civilian vessels in your immediate vicinity about the emergency, allowing them to directly set course for your position.

Thanks to the state-of-the-art GNSS receiver (supporting 92 channels for GPS and the European Galileo system) and full MEOSAR compatibility, the alarm is detected extremely quickly and your position is determined with meter accuracy.

For emergencies at night or in poor visibility, the EPIRB is equipped with three high-intensity LED strobe lights and three infrared night vision lights. The infrared signal can be detected by search helicopters and rescue personnel with night vision devices even under the most adverse conditions over long distances, which massively shortens the search time.

Key Features at a Glance:

  • Global & Local Positioning: 406 MHz satellite frequency combined with local AIS distress signal and 121.5 MHz homing tone (VHF Homer).
  • Most Precise Positioning: Multi-constellation GNSS receiver (GPS L1 + GALILEO E1).
  • MEOSAR Optimized: Accelerated alarm detection through state-of-the-art satellite technology.
  • SmartLight & Night Vision: 3 high-intensity LED flashes and 3 infrared LEDs for improved visibility in low light conditions.
  • Extremely Robust: Protected by shock-absorbing edges (SmartBase) and equipped with a hidden carrying strap (SmartCarry) for hands-free transport.
  • Durability & Maintenance: Impressive 10-year battery life (lithium iron disulfide) from manufacturing date. Easy monitoring thanks to 120 short and 20 long self-tests.
  • Warranty: 1 year standard warranty + 4 additional years upon registration with the manufacturer (Seas of Solutions).

Free Programming Service

Every EPIRB must be programmed with the vessel's MMSI (Maritime Mobile Service Identity). We provide this programming service for you completely free of charge! Here's how it works: Complete your order and then simply send us a scan of your vessel's allocation certificate (which shows the MMSI) via email. We'll take care of the rest.
